Kathleen Russell’s Bio

Hi Everyone!  I’m so excited to be a part of community of women that are so passionate about their hunting, outdoor activities and life in general!

My love for the outdoors began when I was growing up on a farm in Southern New Jersey.    Yes, that’s right a FARM.  My dad grew sweet corn and Christmas trees.  Many an evening was spent walking the perimeter of fields looking for shed antlers and deer tracks.  Even though my parents did not hunt they allowed hunters to use our land.   Living only 4 miles from the Atlantic Ocean definitely made an impact on my life.  I learned to swim in the surf and spent summer days catching blue claw crabs or fishing for flounder in the tidal creeks of the salt marshes.

My first passion is horses.  I guess it’s just genetic.  Every generation all the way back to my great-great grandparents have bred and trained horses.   I don’t even remember not knowing how to ride.  I have been involved in showing Quarter Horses and Paints for many years.

My first husband was a hunter but thought that it was a “guys only” thing.  I always had an interest in hunting but was limited to cooking wild game.  We ate so much venison that my kids would not eat fast food burgers because they “tasted funny”.    Life goes on, divorce happens, kids grow up, and there you are all alone wondering what you will do with the rest of your life.   By divine intervention I met my new husband and hunting mentor last year and we were married in April.

A whole new world has opened for me, I relocated to Missouri, started shooting rifles and shotguns and took hunter safety classes and started shooting bows.  Since April I have competed in NRA High Power Rifle competitions, been turkey hunting, squirrel hunting, trap shooting, dove hunting and now fall deer bow hunting.   I have enjoyed every minute of my adventure so far and hope that I am living proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks!

I hope that I can bring a new dimension to the stories that we share; that of an enthusiastic novice anxious to learn and grow and help others along the way.
